The Federal Government has opened applications for a free solar photovoltaic (PV) installation training programme aimed at professionals, technicians, graduates and young Nigerians interested in developing careers in the renewable energy sector.
The training is being organised in partnership with Siemens Energy and the German development agency GIZ under the Siemens Energy Education and Development (SEED) project.
The initiative is supported by the Nigerian Energy Support Programme (NESP), a technical assistance programme co-funded by the European Union and the German Government and implemented by GIZ.
According to a notice published by FGN Power Company on its X account on Wednesday, the programme is designed to provide participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in solar PV installation.
One of the major benefits for successful participants is COREN certification after completing the programme.
Free Solar PV Training Available to Interested Nigerians
The organisers said the training is open to people with existing practical experience as well as applicants who have no previous practical experience or formal education in the field.
This makes the programme potentially useful for people who want to enter the renewable energy industry and develop practical solar installation skills.
Recent graduates with National Diploma (ND), Higher National Diploma (HND) or undergraduate qualifications are also encouraged to apply.
Young professionals working in relevant sectors and individuals who have a strong interest in renewable energy can equally submit their applications.
However, applicants must be able to attend the training physically for the entire three-week programme.

What Will Participants Learn?
The solar PV installation programme will combine classroom learning with practical activities.
According to the organisers, participants will take part in:
- Theoretical training
- Hands-on practical sessions
- Technical site visits
- Competency assessments
The combination of theory and practical training is intended to help participants develop skills that can be applied to real-world solar photovoltaic installation projects.
Participants who successfully complete the programme will also receive COREN certification, providing an additional professional credential.
Where Will the Training Take Place?
The training will be conducted at centres located in Lagos and Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Each training stream will last for three weeks, and participants are expected to attend the sessions onsite.
Applicants should therefore ensure that they can commit to the physical training before submitting their Expression of Interest.
Training and Certification Are Free
The organisers stated that participants will not be charged for the training or certification.
Meals will also be provided on training days.
However, accommodation and transportation are not included in the programme.
Participants who require accommodation will therefore have to make their own arrangements, while transportation to and from the training venue will also be at the participant’s expense.
